Comfort Oak Porcelain Tiles

By | Posted in: Uncategorized |

Having a massive natural stone and porcelain range can cause all sorts of problems! Notably not noticing just how beautiful they are. Leave it to our customers who have visited our showroom over the past few months to point out these magnificent tiles in particular!

Our Italian crafted Comfort Oak porcelain tiles are a spectacular option for a wood effect floor with beautiful handscrapped features throughout. The main reason these extremely smooth tiles have been very popular at our showroom is due to the fact that unlike natural wood, you can enjoy wood effect tiles without the worries of high level maintenance such as moisture levels however still maintaining the unique wooded texture we all know and love.

First of all, I would like to pick out how stunning these tiles look when placed together. One of our customers kindly asked us to lay the tiles in different patterns so that they could get a better insight of how these tiles look and by doing so, this was the moment I think everyone in the showroom fell in love with them!

Whether you choose a simple side to side look or a herringbone pattern, there is no doubt in my mind that you are sure to get the best out of these wood effect tiles!

Available in three different colours, giving you an option of beige, light brown and dark brown. These three colours are the most popular choice for a wood effect floor.

I personally think these tiles make for an excellent replica of wood flooring which has lead to one our customer’s famous motto: ”I can’t believe it’s not real wood!”

Bathroom Tile Inspiration

By | Posted in: Uncategorized |

Having to make a decision about your bathroom tiles is not as easy as some people might think, it’s actually one of the hardest decisions in the house besides the roof, as you won’t change them anytime soon. My parents have had their bathroom for nearly 30 years and they’re only refurbishing it now, so it’s worth thinking twice! Tiles are not just tiles and they define the look of the bathroom as a whole, mixing and matching is fine, but you should consider getting a second opinion from a professional first. Do you prefer stone tiles? If yes, marble or mosaic? or anthracite glazed porcelain tiles. Maybe even engineered oak flooring perhaps? It’s overwhelming! And I don’t even want to start talking about all the different colour schemes. Standing in the tile shop usually doesn’t help much as you need to visualise the whole bathroom, it is just much easier to make a decision when looking at inspirational pictures and that’s why we’ve made a collection of our favourite bathroom inspirations in this edition of our blog.

It’s about time that we actually write a pure inspirational post and share our visions with you.

Marble is experiencing a great comeback! It’s the latest trend in design and fashion and it’s not only a temporary hype, it’s timeless, so you can’t really go wrong with it. These gorgeous marble tiles brighten up the room and appear to be larger than they are through perfect lighting and choice of colour. If you like a clean and elegant room, the marble tiles are the right choice for you. Similar, are our Bianco Carrera Polished Marble tiles.

It is rare for a colour like grey to go out of style, especially in design. Deciding on grey tiles in your bathroom is just a clever choice, you won’t see much dust and you can add and remove any colour you like since grey is a flexible colour. We suggest a mixture of two different tiles to achieve a classy style, just like on the pictures below. Our Jubilee Black Polished Porcelain goes well with the View Centauro Matt Porcelain or even just mix them up with our View Magellano Porcelain or the New York Anthracite Matt Porcelain.

Another favourite of ours are earthy tones. They have a calming effect on people and embody comfort and balance. The white walls in contrast to the light brown tiles have a positive impact on the overall architectural impression, as it adds brightness to the room as well as appearing to be larger than they actually are, so it’s a good tip for small bathrooms. Good lighting in the bathroom is a high priority in order to see the details of the design and to bring out the best of the beautiful tiles. Depending on your taste, we suggest a mix between our Villeroy & Boch Tribute Beige Rough Polished Porcelain with the Jubilee Ivory Polished Porcelain or for a little darker tone the Quin Coffee Matt Porcelain with the Jubilee Ivory Matt Porcelain. So many choices!

Stone and Wood Shop Takes Las Vegas

Stone and Wood Shop Takes Las Vegas

After such a busy quarter with Stone and Wood Shop and the organisation for my wedding later this year, I finally took a well-earned break away. Earlier this month, I met up with 7 other friends at London Gatwick and set off on a short trip away to Las Vegas (the City of Sin) for my stag do. However, it wasn’t all fun and games, I wanted to take this opportunity to explore the various different tiles used in the high end Hotels in Las Vegas and what the city had to offer in terms of architecture design. As it has some of the most extravagant hotels in the world, I know I wouldn’t be disappointed!

So after 10 hours on the plane, sleeping and watching a lot of movies, we finally landed in Vegas. We all picked up our luggage and swiftly made an exit from the arrivals lounge, we had to make the most of this beautiful weather. As we came out and to our surprise, my best man Ben had organised a Limousine to pick us all up and take us to the famous ‘Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas’ sign for a quick photo.

For the next 3 nights we are staying at the upscale and luxury 5 star ARIA Resort & Casino. The hotel has over 4000 guest rooms, 4 pool areas, 150000 feet of gaming and not to mention, what a beautiful lobby area too. Amazing marble and granite floors with no expense spared and laid in huge 2m x 2m opus patterns throughout.

The guest rooms were amazing. In this industry the first thing you notice anywhere you go is the bathroom and shower facilities. I know, I’m always in work mode, I really should snap out of this! The bathroom wall and floor tiles were composed of a beautiful light beige polished marble, which encapsulated the walk in shower unit as well. The marble was extremely similar to our Sofiya Beige Polished Marble, which has been an extremely successful product for us within high-end developments and 5 star hotels, and it was certainly great to see it in action!

We literally travelled the whole of Las Vegas, walking through the various different hotels (don’t judge me, it was too hot outside on the strip) on a number of occasions and visiting famous landmarks. On our last day, we attended an awesome pool party at the high end Mandalay Bay casino hotel, kindly organised by my close friends Julian and Chi. Whilst enjoying the sun, music and drinks (of course) I did spot a familiar face. The familiar face being the type of tile used in the pool area, again, very similar to our Dijon Honed Limestone, I thought to myself.

Anyway, before I give too much away, I’ll leave you all with some lovely photos of the trip. For more information on any of the mentioned tiles in this blog do feel free to contact us. Otherwise, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas as they say!

The Power of Colour- Issue Four: Daring to Use Red

By | Posted in: Limestone Flooring, The Power of Colour | Tagged: , , , , , , , , |

I have always been afraid of using the colour Red. All it brings to mind for me is the thought of tomatoes or Valentine’s Day, neither of which I’m Interior design red and white kitchenparticularly fond. It is such a strong colour that you really have to be sure about how you are going to use it because, trust me, it’s not fading into the background.

However, as it turns out, there are a lot of pretty nifty ways to use this bold colour. For starters, it is known for increasing ones appetite and therefore is very useful for restaurants. I know most of you aren’t likely to use it for this purpose but I thought that was pretty fun and also, of course, some might be inclined to use this fact for kitchen decorating.

Red and Black bedroomThe brighter end of the spectrum increases heart rate and the more Red you use the more passion it can inspire. This comes with a warning; the over use of Red, in some cases, can cause irritability, agitation and anger especially in places where you might want to relax. So, perhaps it is best to reduce its use in bedrooms or any other room you would like to wind down in. With this in mind, for rooms like the living room, deeper reds will give a more cosy and warm feel.

If you want to be energised and motivated to take action, Red is definitely the one for you and more so if you like to make a statement. I personally love combining Darker Greys with Deep Reds – The Farley Grey Antiqued Limestone, for example, would work well with some black detailing. For those of you that like brighter rooms, Bright Red and White are a popular combination!

Fun Fact! Red is the first colour that babies can distinguish. Recent studies have shown that infants as young as two weeks old can see Red. But Why? Red has the longest wavelength and is therefore the easiest colour for our eyes to process, especially while they are still developing. I do love a little bit of science.

Marble Stone by Antoni

Only until working for Stone and Wood Shop have I really appreciated marble stone. The texture, different colour variations and most of all the look it gives to a room.

Whether it is a polished, honed or tumbled finish, the natural beauty of marble tiles will not let you down.

What seizes to amaze me still to this day is how we can access such a beautiful earth stone and bring out the very best of it. Utilising this stone, along with the

Ancient Greeks shows how marble has been a favourite for centuries (and being Greek myself, it is a personal favourite!).

The characteristic veins and textures within a marble tile catches my eye the most. A great example of this is our Bianco Carrera Polished Marble which consists of a polished chrystallised finish. With a cloudy, mesmerising grey and white vein throughout and a square edged finish, it can be used in almost any space.

As marbles go, it’s certainly the pick of the gods!
